An Introduction to Songlines

About

Never really had the opportunity to learn about aboriginal rights and culture? Are you stumped as to why we 'need' to do an 'Acknowledgement of Country' at school or before a big presentation at the office? If you’re over 35 years old and grew up in Australia, it's very likely your ‘study’ of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history was limited to 'How the British settlers helped 'civilise' the aboriginal people, as this was the dominant view reflected in the 1970's and 80's school curriculum. It's what historians refer to as ‘the Empire view’ or ‘View from the boat’. An Introduction to Songlines is a program to help bridge common knowledge gaps shared by generations of older Australians by directly addressing the relevance of key Indigenous Australian conversations. By breaking down the language, the stigmas and the current issues into digestible and actionable insights for all ages, this program is a critical step towards understanding The Uluru Statement and the journey to Makaratta - a journey that starts with #truthtelling when discussing the history of Australia and incorporates the view from The Boat, as well as, the view from The Shore. This program is for those who seek to understand but have always been too afraid to ask.
